This session will feature a panel of pressure injury researchers who will discuss current evidence in pressure injury (PI) etiology and current gaps in the research requiring further study. Specifically, the session will explore the etiology of pressure injury development, investigate the differences between pressure injuries and incontinence associated dermatitis (IAD) and explore recent research on pressure injury development in the ICU population. The focus of this panel will be to describe what we currently know about PI development, what gaps in our understanding hamper prevention efforts, and suggestions for future areas of research in PI development and prevention.

Learning Objectives

The participant will be able to identify risk factors for the development of PI in the ICU population.
